Responding to climate and ecological needs

Architect Helens Bay Crawfordburn Bangor NI

Tonn Architecture has declared a Climate and Ecological Emergency as a signatory of Architects Declare.

Recognising the state of the climate and environment, and the role construction plays in contributing to this, Tonn Architecture is committed to working in a way that has a more positive impact on our world.

This core ethos drives the practice.

In Irish mythology the word tonn refers to great destructive waves from the last ice age near to where we are based in County Down, but also means waves of the sea, or the sea itself. Ignoring the climate crisis is to give up and accept destruction, but in acknowledging and responding to it we can build a better future.

Tonn also means abundance.

Environmentally conscious architecture is not about limiting what we can do, it’s about recognising the abundance in what we have and what we can do, the beauty in natural materials and our unique heritage.

Tonn Architecture will deliver high quality, comfortable buildings that celebrate the richness of this part of the world while seeking to protect our own natural resources.
